In the 2008-09 cotton season, cotton production in Tanzania increased by 82% to 365731 tons, but sales of cotton were affected by the global economic downturn, Tanzania cotton Bureau said.

In the 2007-08 cotton season (11-8 months), Tanzania's cotton output reached 200665 tons, with a revenue of 47 million 100 thousand US dollars.

It is the season of sale. The global recession has affected cotton prices and narrowed the market in Europe, the United States and Asia.

Tanzania cotton Bureau said it is difficult to quantify the direct losses of the recession, but there are still 26803 tons of cotton that still do not find buyers.

There are still 148084 bales of cotton that are not for sale.

7 areas in Western Tanzania planted 98% of total cotton in Tanzania, and cotton cultivation in these 7 regions in the West began in November.

Most of these areas are semi-arid areas, and cotton is the main cash crop.

Most cotton growers grow cotton on some land and grow about 1-2 hectares per season.

The main buyers of cotton in Tanzania include India, Indonesia, China, Thailand, Pakistan, Vietnam, Portugal, Bangladesh, Kenya, Malaysia, Mauritius and Turkey.
