When it comes to fake goods, you may think of handbags, watches and jewelry.

Indeed, a new study by the OECD shows that Louis Weedon and Rolex are among the most popular counterfeiters in the world, but the most counterfeited brands are actually Nike.

Quartz reported that the OECD said that the report on the trade impact of counterfeit goods and counterfeit goods: the most rigorous and precise one to date is based on the detailed information of global customs seized products from 2010 to 2013.

The report estimates that

Copycat Market

The total scale of 2013 has reached US $461 billion, which is roughly the same as that of the drug market, equivalent to around 2.5% of the global gross domestic product.

The OECD pointed out that the United States is the most serious country where intellectual property rights have been infringed. Almost every field has been Shanzhai, and footwear is the most powerful.

The report points out that "targets that the counterfeiters seem to have particularly valued" includes Rolex, Ray-Ban, Louis Weedon and

Nike

Nike has been identified by the World Customs Organization in 2014 as the world's most counterfeited brand.

The OECD report read: "the findings of the survey confirm the results of the previous World Customs Organization's report. They think Nike is the most frequently copied brand in 2013."

Shoes are the hardest hit area.

In response to the mail, the OECD said they did not carefully investigate the specific reasons why Nike was so widely copied, but there are many reasons for counterfeiters to focus on some specific products, such as Nike sports shoes.

"The attractiveness of specific products is only one of many factors."

A spokesman for the OECD said, "others include the technical difficulty of counterfeiting (high grade cars may be more attractive than Nike shoes, but the technical threshold of counterfeiting is too high), the assessment of potential demand (someone will be willing to pay for fake Rolls-Royce), and the effectiveness of sales channels (fake Nike can use flea market and many online stores)."

These cottage products will eventually flow to two markets.

In the first market, consumers are unaware of the fact that they bought real goods.

However, in the second markets, consumers know that they are paying a low price for fake goods.

The OECD said that it would depend on specific countries to imitate Nike's market.

In Scandinavia, counterfeit products tend to deceive consumers, whereas in southern Europe, fake Nike is "dominant".

Nike issued a statement saying that they "actively protect their brands, cooperate with law enforcement agencies and global customs to prevent counterfeit products from reaching consumers' side," they also say that fakes are often of poor quality.

More than 60% of the world's cottage goods are from China.

Needless to say, most people know that China is the source of most Shanzhai goods.

Alibaba is China's largest and, by some indicators, the largest in the world.

Electronic Commerce

They also have a headache because of fake products on their websites.

For some industries, these cottage products have become a major threat.

According to the OECD report, 5% of the EU's imports are fakes.

Another report estimated that the European clothing industry lost 10% of its annual sales of counterfeit goods.
