Over the past few months, China has temporarily blocked major cities and production centers, resulting in shortages of raw materials. Kampuchea is facing serious shortage of textile raw materials and factories are shutting down.

Earlier, the Cambodian government urged China to help solve the problem of raw materials, so more than 60 containers loaded with textile materials arrived at Sihanouk port yesterday.

The containers, full of buttons, zippers and textiles, are the result of emergency measures taken by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and the Chinese Embassy in Kampuchea to coordinate the supply and transportation of raw materials to Cambodian textiles.

The Kampuchea Garment Manufacturers Association said last month that more than 60% of the raw materials used by Kampuchea factories were imported from China. Government officials estimate that if there is no improvement in the shortage of raw materials, 30000 garment factory workers may lose their jobs this month.

Prime Minister Hong Sen urged Chinese ambassador Wang Wentian last month to help solve the problem of the coming unemployment of workers.

GMAC Deputy Secretary General Kaing Monika said last month that the Kampuchea government has sought China to place Kampuchea as a priority supplier. China's textile raw materials will be delivered to factories in Kampuchea as fast as possible. The loss of Cambodia will be reduced to a minimum, and the Cambodian garment and footwear industry can overcome difficulties as soon as possible.

Wu Guoquan, an economic and Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Kampuchea, said that the common sense of "sharing weal and woe" is a friendly consensus between China and Cambodia. The Chinese side said that the new Haifeng liner (SITC), which carried more than 60 containers of textile raw materials, first arrived at the western port on Monday (March 9th).

The Cambodian side will arrange for priority of Chinese vessels carrying textile raw materials to dock, improve discharge efficiency and efficiency of port customers' delivery, open up green channels, give priority to customs clearance, and give priority to release of trailers and containers.

It is worth mentioning that China and Kampuchea started negotiations on the FTA at the beginning of 2020, indicating that China is continuing to vigorously expand the construction of the FTA network, while Kampuchea is a strong ally of China. Both sides are strong backing to cope with the changing international economic environment and the differentiation and reorganization of the international economic order.
