On the 19th, the 2023 China (Chongqing) Sericulture Silk Industry High Quality Development Conference was held in Fengjie, Chongqing. Experts from all over the country gathered to talk about the high-quality development of sericulture and silk industry.

With the theme of "enabling scientific and technological innovation and diversified integrated development", the conference helped the high-quality development of intelligent sericulture industry by holding opening ceremony, keynote report, keynote speech, round table dialogue on high-quality development of sericulture and silk industry and other activities.

At the meeting, Xu Weilin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of Wuhan Textile University, and Fang Yin, chief scientist of the national sericulture industry technology system and chairman of the Chinese Silkworm Society, respectively made keynote reports under the title of "Strengthening industrial chain innovation, promoting high-quality development of the silk industry" and "Digital silkworm: from scientific and technological self-reliance to application innovation in seed industry".

It is reported that Chongqing is one of the top ten silkworm breeding areas in China. There are 22 districts and counties planting mulberry and raising silkworm. The area of the mulberry garden is stable at about 600000 mu. Up to now, Chongqing has built 6 silk industrial parks, producing more than 24 million meters of silk and satin, and the annual comprehensive output value of the cocoon and silk industry has exceeded 5 billion yuan, driving more than 200000 jobs. The sericulture and silk industry has become the backbone industry in Chongqing to promote agricultural development, prosper the rural economy and help farmers become rich.

Fengjie County, located in the heart of the Three Gorges Reservoir Area, is one of the earliest areas in China to plant mulberry, raise silkworm and weave cloth. In recent years, the county has attached great importance to the development of sericulture industry, and has issued a series of policies for all-round support, from base construction to labor employment to financial insurance. The county has formed an industrial system of "company+base+farmers". The scale of silkworm cultivation in the county has reached 110000 mu. By 2022, the number of silkworm rearing will reach 80000, the cocoon production will reach 3.8 million kg, and the output value will reach 500 million yuan, driving 30000 households and 80000 people to increase their income.

As one of the first batch of national innovative counties, Fengjie County has cooperated with some universities and scientific research institutes to develop an intelligent silkworm breeding system and upgraded it to version 3.0. The efficiency of silkworm breeding has increased 28 times, and the rate of high-quality cocoons has reached 92%. The sericulture industry has greatly reduced its cost and increased its quality through technological empowerment.

"Fengjie's sericulture and silk industry has a long history and profound connotation. For thousands of years, folk sericulture and silk making have become a common practice and have never stopped." Gong Yisheng, the head of Fengjie County People's Government, said that the county will spare no effort to build a modern sericulture industry system, promote the construction of efficient sericulture bases and intelligent sericulture production lines, and vigorously promote the centralized and joint cultivation of small silkworms New technologies such as labor-saving rearing of large silkworms will accelerate the building of a national innovative intelligent silkworm county.
