PPI Rises In The US In July

The US producer price index (PPI) in July

Prices still go up, which means that the Federal Reserve has less room to ease credit.


The Labor Department released on Wednesday that the US's PPI increased by 0.2% in July and seasonally adjusted by 0.4% in June.

It is driven by rising costs of food, tobacco, trucks and medicine.

Food prices rose 0.6% in July, the second consecutive month.


Energy prices continued for second consecutive months in July.

Gasoline prices fell by 2.8%.


The core PPI of fluctuating food and energy prices increased by 0.4% during the month, rising for the eighth consecutive month.


Economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires estimated that overall PPI rose by 0.1% in July and core PPI rose by 0.2%.


The core PPI rose by 2.5% over the same month, the biggest increase since June 2009.

Overall PPI rose by 7.2% over the same period.


The price of intermediate products increased by 0.2% compared with last month, and the price of raw materials decreased by 1.2%.
